Photographic rights
By submitting an image for use in the book The World’s Rarest Birds, you grant TheWorldsRarest.com and BirdLife International non-exclusive unlimited world rights to publish it in printed or electronic form for any purpose linked to the production and marketing of the book The World’s Rarest Birds. You have the option to grant TheWorldsRarest.com and BirdLife International additional rights to publish on their respective websites or in other BirdLife publications any image you submit; such usage will be solely for the purpose of furthering the conservation of the species and not for use in commercial publications.
Copyright, fees, accreditation and confidentiality
Copyright in any photographs submitted for The Competition remains with the photographer.
No fees will be paid.
All photographs that are published in The World’s Rarest Birds will be credited with the photographer’s name and website link if requested.
Neither TheWorldsRarest.com nor BirdLife International will pass on any image submitted for The World’s Rarest Birds to any third party without the express permission of the photographer.
Neither TheWorldsRarest.com nor BirdLife International will forward to any third party the address (email or otherwise) of individuals who submit images for The World’s Rarest Birds.
Submitting images
You may sumbit as many photos as you wish for The World’s Rarest Birds, though we request limiting the number to five images per species. Images showing birds at their nest will not be featured. Neither TheWorldsRarest.com nor BirdLife International shall be required to publish any photo that is submitted.
Images should be submitted electronically as JPG (highest quality) or TIFF. Images should be as large as possible and ideally 3500 x 2500 pixels, but should not exceed 25MB. To upload an image, please select the name of the species from the drop-down menu and complete all the required fields on the The World's Rarest Birds photo sumbission screen.Scans of transparencies can be submitted, although the original transparency may be requested if the image is selected for publication. If you have a transparency of a species for which we do not yet have an image (click here for a list), please contact the editor at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. By submitting a photograph for use in The World’s Rarest Birds, the photographer:
- Guarantees that he/she owns the copyright to the work or any part of the submitted work.
- Indemnifies TheWorldsRarest.com, BirdLife International and the publisher WILDGuides against any claims, actions, proceedings, costs and expenses that may arise from allegations that the copyright or ownership of the entered work does not belong to the entrant.
- Agrees to cropping, reversal or minor alterations to their work and, if necessary, fades into the text for the purpose of including it in the book The World’s Rarest Birds.
